Nicki Minaj Claps Back at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards
August 31, 2015
People love to talk about you but as soon as you clap back, you're the one in the wrong. That is exactly what happened last night after Nicki Minaj publicly addressed Miley Cyrus who was the evenings host. Miley had previously did an interview for the New York Times where she was asked ahow she felt about Nicki's tweet discussing not being a Video of the Year nominee. Miley went on to say:
"People forget that the choices that they make and how they treat people in life affect you in a really big way. If you do things with an open heart and you come at things with love, you would be heard and I would respect your statement. But I don’t respect your statement because of the anger that came with it. […] If you want to make it about race, there’s a way you could do that. But don’t make it just about yourself. Say: ‘This is the reason why I think it’s important to be nominated. There’s girls everywhere with this body type...What I read sounded very Nicki Minaj, which, if you know Nicki Minaj is not too kind. It's not very polite," said Miley. "I think there’s a way you speak to people with openness and love".
Now after going over everything Nicki said, Taylor Swift said, and Nicki responding to her, I am trying to figure out where Miley found any impoliteness or unkindness in Nicki's response. Nicki didn't call out anybody in particular but when Taylor jumped in, she still remained humble in correcting her. Any artist would be angry for not being nominated for an award they feel they worked hard for so we all understand Nicki's frustration and who are we to tell her how to voice her feelings and opinions?
Anywho, Nicki clearly read the interview since she couldnt miss it with all the commotion it has stirred in the media in the days leading up to the VMA's. Now like any normal person, at least where I'm from, Nicki confronted Miley about what she had to say. In all fairness, everyone is entitled to their opinion and I think Nicki took offense when Miley said in the interview that she doesn't respect her statement. After Nicki accepted her award for the Best Hip Hop Video, she thanked her pastor, then went everything went left. I swear I thought something was about to pop off. The entire situation was hilarious. Nicki ended her speech in her classic Barbie voice before switching going hood. She said "and nowwwww, back to this b*tch that had a lot to say about me in the press. Miley what’s good?" I know a lot of jaws dropped, people stood up, and some were even cracking up as there was an awkward silence from bafflement. Miley gave a classy response mixed with a next twist and swinging of the hair. It was all childish but very humorous.
Now everyone is calling Nicki trash and I can not entirely agree! The feud was allegedly real and Nicki showed her true colors which I can not be mad at because I know a lot of people like that. There's no point in sugar coating anything. I'm not saying either of them were right in their actions. They both addressed each other publicly but in different ways so I feel like Miley should have expected Nicki to say something since she had something to say too. What do you think? Sound off below.
