I Got My Entire Life At The Unlocked Summit: Detroit!
February 25, 2016
I know that I’ve been really busy so I haven't been able to blog as much but this event is definitely worth talking about. Going to The Unlocked Summit: Detroit this past weekend was such an empowering experience for me. Created by entrepreneurs Chatoya Antwine and Asia Horne, the summit catered to female entrepreneurs and professionals by providing them with business, wellbeing, and beauty knowledge pivotal to the success and advancement of their brand/business. I didn't get to go to the lounge but over the course of a day, the summit was an opportunity to network and connect with other women who 100% blew my mind. The inspiration and resources I got from the summit motivated me to walk out of there ready to work smarter and give my passion my all. Not only that but to stand firm and live in my purpose. I loved it and my spirit did too!
The summit began with a confidence workshop from Dr. Joy, who amped everyone up with her story and encouragement. She spoke about how the chaos that was going on in her life only made her stronger and led her to being more confident in her abilities to live in her purpose. It was no joke. I swear I just wanted to say YASSS because I found myself agreeing with everything she said. Although she didn’t preach the gospel, I sure felt like it because she took my spirit to another level. She set the tone for the day and honestly, she should've gotten a round of applause because that woman was BOMB!
Dr. Joy was followed by (in no particular order) Latoya Early, Asia Horne, Amber Nicole, Ebony Cochran, Jena Emily Utley, Chatoya Antwine, April Boyle, Brittney Michelle, and Dr. Rose Moten who facilitated workshops on an array of topics from credit to social media appearance. There was also a panelist of up and coming female professionals and community activists who discussed the current state of small businesses, entrepreneurship, supporting other women, and creating a strong brand in the city of Detroit.
Detroit City Councilwoman Mary Sheffield and entrepreneur Dr. Nicole Farmer were honored by Asia and Chatoya with the first ever Unlock The City Awards for their contributions to the city of Detroit. Lastly, I want to mention the food catered by Divine Indulgence Personal Chef Services which is owned by 20 year old Chef Shanel Dewalt. She provided the lunch for the summit and it was absolutely delicious! There were 3 lunch options which included a Napa Chicken Salad Croissant Sandwich, a Cajun Chicken BLT, Black Bean Burger Sliders, a seasonal salad, chips, and a Strawberry Shortcake Shooter topped with a lemon whipped cream.
Then a few days after the summit, Chatoya and Asia were honored by the Detroit City Council for their contributions to the city in creating this event which has empowered women, promoted entrepreneurship, and gave back to the city. They also announced the next tour stop for the summit which will be Atlanta, GA this summer. ATL is in for a treat because I know it's going to be another awesome event. I’m so grateful that I got the chance to experience it here in Detroit because it gave me a different mindset and opened the door to new opportunities and relationships for me. I’d definitely go again. Thank you Chatoya and Asia!
